IT Technician

Location: Scobey, MT

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, upgrade, and configure network printing, directory structures, rights, security, and software on fileservers.
  • Evaluate and recommend acquisition of computer and software products.
  • Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network problems.
  • Prepare documentation such as instructional or procedural manuals.
  • Modify hardware or software.
  • Design and implement network configurations.
  • Provide consultation to information systems personnel.
  • Serve as a technical resource for agency information systems planning.
  • Serve as liaison to vendors.
  • Provide training and technical support in use of software products, ie: Word Processing, Spreadsheets, e-mail.
  • Troubleshoot and solve hardware and software problems.
  • Respond to the needs and questions of users concerning their access of resources on the network.
  • Establish network users, user environment, directories and security for networks being installed.
  • Responsible for paperwork associated with software licensing, inventory and reference material.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to fulfill job function or as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have a good working knowledge of information systems
  • Working knowledge of UNIX / Linux a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Windows server systems, OS and software.
  • Must learn the interactive television systems.
  • Capable of working with and understanding network problems.
  • Able to communicate well to assist company personnel with hardware/software problems.
  • Able to learn and apply new technologies as they become available.
  • Able to pay close attention to numerous details.
  • Able to maintain pleasant manner and possess ability to work with internal/external customers and interpret problems they may have with computer work stations and software programs.
  • Able to work well in stressful situations and/or under pressure.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a valid Montana driver’s license, have a good driving record, and be insured under the Cooperative’s insurance policy.

Education/Experience

Education/Experience

  • Computer Science Degree or equivalent experience is desired.
  • MCP, Network Plus or equivalent is desired.
  • Some experience with information system management and with UNIX is desired.

 Physical Demands

  • Sits at desk most of day.
  • Stands and walks short distances.
  • Will be required to stoop, bend and crawl at times. Some ladder work will be required.
  • Handles books, papers and computer equipment.
  • Occasional lifting of weight up to 50 pounds required.

 Special Demands

  • Must be able to work alone, but will report to the Data Operations Manager.
  • Will require travel.
